How long do I have to wear Invisalign?

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

If you have always wanted straighter teeth, but don’t want traditional metal braces, Invisalign may be a great solution. At Dentistry@Main, Ottawa cosmetic dentist Dr. Ami Barakat works with adult patients to provide the most appropriate teeth-straightening technologies. Dr. Barakat understands you probably don’t want a “mouth full of metal,” so he offers Invisalign as a modern solution to adult teeth straightening.

Length of Invisalign Treatment

Though there are many advantages to Invisalign, treatment times will vary depending upon your individual needs. Because of this, you can reasonably expect Invisalign treatment to last as long as treatment with traditional braces, which is generally between 9 and 18 months.

Invisalign’s clear, removable aligners (similar in appearance to mouth guards) are worn full-time, with the exception of removal for eating, drinking, and dental hygiene.  Each set lasts approximately two weeks and realign teeth gently and gradually towards their desired placement.

Is Invisalign right for you? If you have mild to moderate tooth crowding, misaligned teeth, uneven teeth, or gaps between teeth, you may be a good candidate. A thorough examination and consultation with Dr. Barakat is the only way to know for sure. He has attended and completed specialized training in treating patients with Invisalign, and has helped many patients enjoy the confidence that comes with a great smile.

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

How can you straighten your teeth without unsightly metal braces? With Invisalign, modern dentistry’s solution to invisible teeth straightening. The Invisalign process is simple, painless and effective, and offers numerous advantages over traditional orthodontics.

Invisalign: A Straight Path to Success

To begin your Invisalign treatment, Dr. Ami Barakat of Dentistry@Main in Ottawa, Ontario takes digital X-rays of your teeth. Next, Dr. Barakat tailors a treatment plan to your specific needs. After Dr. Barakat makes an impression of your teeth, technicians create a custom set of Invisalign aligners, each with subtle differences to address the sequential stages of the Invisalign teeth straightening process. These aligners gently and gradually move your teeth towards the desired straightness. In just a few months, you’ll have the straight teeth you’ve always wanted.

Convenient and Comfortable

Unlike braces, aligners can be removed at mealtimes to allow for a normal diet, and again when it’s time to brush and floss your teeth, which is so important to ensuring optimum dental health while undergoing treatment with Invisalign.

Invisalign is convenient for the family budget too. Dentistry@Main accepts a wide variety of payment types and plans.

Advantages of Invisalign

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Invisalign is a teeth-straightening system that works much like braces, but without the “metal mouth” that may be inappropriate for a grownup lifestyle.

Invisalign vs. Braces

Invisalign offers many advantages over traditional braces. Among the most popular advantages are virtually invisible aligners, which are custom-fitted to sit tightly over your teeth and replace the metal wires used in braces. Since aligners are clear, they’re nearly undetectable. For adults, Invisalign is a great solution for straightening your teeth while you work, play and go about normal daily activities, and no one ever has to know.

Other advantages of Invisalign include:

  • Easy-to-clean trays. Simply remove aligners to brush and floss your teeth, and keep your teeth and gums in excellent condition while undergoing treatment with Invisalign.
  • Normal diet. Since trays are removed at mealtimes, continue with your normal diet, without the constraints imposed by traditional orthodontic treatments.
  • Increased comfort. The smooth surface of Invisalign moves teeth in gradual shifts, from the back first and then the front, minimizing jaw discomfort and virtually eliminating the inner mouth irritations caused by rough brackets and cheek-snagging wires.

Ottawa cosmetic dentist, Dr. Ami Barakat is happy to discuss the advantages of Invisalign during your free consultation. To find out if Invisalign is right for you, please contact Dr. Barakat at Dentistry@Main, serving Ottawa, Kanata, and Stittsville, Ontario.

How Invisalign Works

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

If you’ve always wished for straighter teeth, but traditional braces are not an option, you may want to learn more about Invisalign.

Invisalign: Getting It Straight

The Invisalign system works similarly to traditional braces, with the goal of straightening teeth. The biggest difference when compared to traditional braces is that Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable, custom-fitted aligners to straighten teeth instead of a complex structure of brackets and wire. With aesthetics similar to a mouth guard, Invisalign aligners are worn full-time but can be removed for eating, drinking, and dental hygiene maintenance.

Dr. Ami Barakat, at Dentistry on Main, begins by making an impression of your teeth to create your custom set of aligners, each fashioned with subtle differences to encourage your teeth to move gently and gradually towards the desired result.

As your teeth shift position throughout the various stages of aligners, Dr. Barakat will monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments. Because this process is customized to your teeth and rate of progress, the Invisalign aligners cannot be used again, and cannot be used by anyone other than you.

During a thorough consultation, Ottawa cosmetic dentist, Dr. Barakat can determine whether Invisalign will work for your particular teeth straightening needs. Please contact us today to schedule your free consultation at Dentistry@Main, serving Ottawa, Kanata, and Stittsville, Ontario.

Candidacy for Invisalign

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Trying to decide between Invisalign and traditional braces? If you’re a good candidate for metal braces, chances are you’re a good fit for Invisalign.

The Invisalign System

The Invisalign system is based upon a series of clear, removable aligners. Similar in aesthetics to a mouth guard, aligners are worn full-time, much like traditional braces, with the exception of removal for eating, drinking, and maintenance of dental hygiene.  Each set lasts approximately two weeks. The goal is to move the position of your teeth, gently and gradually, towards their desired placement.
