Advantages of Invisalign
Wednesday, April 27th, 2011
Invisalign is a teeth-straightening system that works much like braces, but without the “metal mouth” that may be inappropriate for a grownup lifestyle.
Invisalign vs. Braces
Invisalign offers many advantages over traditional braces. Among the most popular advantages are virtually invisible aligners, which are custom-fitted to sit tightly over your teeth and replace the metal wires used in braces. Since aligners are clear, they’re nearly undetectable. For adults, Invisalign is a great solution for straightening your teeth while you work, play and go about normal daily activities, and no one ever has to know.
Other advantages of Invisalign include:
- Easy-to-clean trays. Simply remove aligners to brush and floss your teeth, and keep your teeth and gums in excellent condition while undergoing treatment with Invisalign.
- Normal diet. Since trays are removed at mealtimes, continue with your normal diet, without the constraints imposed by traditional orthodontic treatments.
- Increased comfort. The smooth surface of Invisalign moves teeth in gradual shifts, from the back first and then the front, minimizing jaw discomfort and virtually eliminating the inner mouth irritations caused by rough brackets and cheek-snagging wires.

How Invisalign Works
Friday, April 22nd, 2011
If you’ve always wished for straighter teeth, but traditional braces are not an option, you may want to learn more about Invisalign.
Invisalign: Getting It Straight
The Invisalign system works similarly to traditional braces, with the goal of straightening teeth. The biggest difference when compared to traditional braces is that Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable, custom-fitted aligners to straighten teeth instead of a complex structure of brackets and wire. With aesthetics similar to a mouth guard, Invisalign aligners are worn full-time but can be removed for eating, drinking, and dental hygiene maintenance.
Dr. Ami Barakat, at Dentistry on Main, begins by making an impression of your teeth to create your custom set of aligners, each fashioned with subtle differences to encourage your teeth to move gently and gradually towards the desired result.
As your teeth shift position throughout the various stages of aligners, Dr. Barakat will monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments. Because this process is customized to your teeth and rate of progress, the Invisalign aligners cannot be used again, and cannot be used by anyone other than you.
During a thorough consultation, Ottawa cosmetic dentist, Dr. Barakat can determine whether Invisalign will work for your particular teeth straightening needs. Please contact us today to schedule your free consultation at Dentistry@Main, serving Ottawa, Kanata, and Stittsville, Ontario.

Candidacy for Invisalign
Friday, April 15th, 2011
Trying to decide between Invisalign and traditional braces? If you’re a good candidate for metal braces, chances are you’re a good fit for Invisalign.
The Invisalign System
The Invisalign system is based upon a series of clear, removable aligners. Similar in aesthetics to a mouth guard, aligners are worn full-time, much like traditional braces, with the exception of removal for eating, drinking, and maintenance of dental hygiene. Each set lasts approximately two weeks. The goal is to move the position of your teeth, gently and gradually, towards their desired placement.

Bottom of Form
Invisalign works best for those with mild to moderate orthodontic needs and is designed to correct:
- Gaps between teeth
- Uneven teeth
- Misaligned teeth
- Protrusive teeth
- Crowded teeth
Children whose mouths and teeth are still developing may not be good candidates for Invisalign. Individuals with severe bite abnormalities who require the use of headgear will likely not qualify.
Choosing Invisalign
At Dentistry on Main, Dr.Ami Barakat has the knowledge and expertise to help you choose the smile makeover solution that best fits your needs. Invisalign is an excellent option for adults who desire straighter teeth, but do not want the hassle and unsightly appearance of metal braces.
